Course Reflection

May 12th, 2022 By Kyle Harvey  Throughout this semester we have been given the opportunity to explore a myriad of applications that have enhanced our knowledge of business communication. Even though this course has moved by quickly we were able to explore blog building, Google Drive Applications, screen recorders, animations, video editors, and more. One of my favorite things about this course was the number of choices that we had to choose from when it came to reviewing and using applications. Also, being able to evaluate the best application allowed me to figure out which one would be the best one to take into my professional career.  At my organization we are constantly look for unique applications that have the potential to take our training participant engagement to new levels. Remote training, video editing, and animations are a great way to bring a training to life and make sure the information sticks! As stated above my favorite applications we reviewed were the animation cre

A Review/Reflection-Glide Application Creator

May 11th, 2022 By Kyle Harvey  Hello, Friends! During this lesson the class was the given the opportunity to explore the world of app making through Glide. This software allows an individual to create and publish mobile apps through Google Sheets. This is a great tool for anyone who is interested in app making but doesn't know how to code! I created an application that lists the greatest anime characters of all time, and my audience is of course fans of anime. This application was strictly information based as it would list the characters and then allow the user to click on them to read a short bio/description of the character. I opted to use the Google Sheets version of creating the app over using the template because I wanted to get the true feel of making the app from scratch. I definitely ran into a view issue with images not loading at first and text looking a little wonky, but overall, I'm happy with my finished product! In terms of my experience using Glide, I would def

Review: Video Editors- Flimora & Movavi

May 11th, 2022    Hello, Friends!  For this lesson we were tasked with creating two videos with two separate video editors. Once this task was complete the class was then asked to reflect on our experiences. I don't have a lot of experience working with video editors, but I found the programs I used to be relatively simple when it came to adding music and transition slides. I also used the editor to trim my video due to a long awkward pause that was originally at the very beginning. It's amazing to me how simple video editing has become, and I'm impressed with the free editors that exist for people to use. Even though the editors left a watermark for the free versions of the content, everything still showed up nicely and was just the way I wanted it to look. Due to this lesson I want to look into video editing software and build up my skills so that I can use some of the paid versions in my training classes. Below are the videos that I created using Flimora and Mavavi.  Fl

Review/Comparison

May 11th, 2022 By Kyle Harvey Hello, Friends!  This week we were asked to create two infographics using two different editors. After the creation of these infographics, we were then asked to compare the editors used. I chose to use Piktochart and Canva to create my infographics and I really enjoyed using them both! These editors are both simple and intuitive to use and allow the user to create almost any type of infographic that they desire. With that being said I did enjoy using Canva just a little bit more since it allowed a few more creative graphics and designs than Piktochart. Below are the screenshots that I collected from both Canva and Piktochart. Overall, I would recommend both of these editors for individuals wishing to create awesome infographics!  Piktochart Canva

A Review: Google Drive Applications

Image
April 30, 2022  By Kyle Harvey  Google Drive offers Gmail users the ability to create documents, slides, forms, and spreadsheets for free. These applications easily rival those found in the Microsoft Suites applications commonly used in their functionality and usability. During module 3 the class was asked to create 4 separate items using each of the 4 applications mentioned above and then link them to a compare and contrast blog for others to review. I found that using these applications was very similar to using Microsoft applications and enjoyed them for what they are which is applications designed to create documents, slides, forms, and spreadsheets. The one feature that I wasn't super pleased with was that Google Drive does not allow users to right-click paste which is the main method I use. I don't hate using the shortcut method, but it did take some getting used to (and a lot of reminding by Google) for me to catch on. Overall, I believe that Google Drive is the future

Review of Social bookmarking Sites: Pocket/Instapaper

Image
April 28th, 2022 By Kyle Harvey In this assignment we were to choose to social bookmarking sites and then use them to gather articles. Out of the articles and sites that we selected 10 of the articles had to pertain to our hobbies and interests while another 10 articles had to consist of information related to our careers. I chose to select the sites Pocket and Instapaper. These are tools that I have used in the past to help me organize and go through articles more quickly since they also have the ability to read the site for you as well. I enjoyed each of the sites equally and feel that you can't really go wrong with either one. If you twisted my arm though, I would choose Pocket since it makes it very easy to share URLs of articles. Instapaper does have a sharing option, but it mostly makes you utilize email which isn't something that people use all the time. Below are the links to my blogs that contain both my Instapaper and Pocket Articles. Each Image is clickable and shou
